The Nuts and Bolts of Service and Support

Now that you and your loved one have assessed the amount of service and support he or she may need and you have completed the self-assessment form found in the section What Is A Caregiver/Family Support, you need some basic information – how do I help my loved one walk? How does one give a bed bath? What about toileting issues? The “nuts and bolts” of providing hands-on assistance are detailed in this link. (While this link addresses the older adult, the information it contains can be applied to providing support and service to individuals of any age.)

You may need information about services that are available such as personal care agencies, adaptive devices and home modifications. You may also need to locate and organize various medical, financial and personal records.  And, should your loved one require more care than you can provide, you may need information about residential choices such as personal care homes and nursing homes.  Information and printable forms are available here:
