State and Federal Services and Programs Available in Pennsylvania

Valuable assistance can often be obtained by contacting your Area Agency on Aging. The Area Agencies on Aging serve individuals age 60 and older. Disability Enrollment Agencies or Centers for Independent Living are helpful for people under the age of 60. Contact the agency that serves the county where your loved one lives or the Department of Public Welfare.

State and Federal funding may be available for services that provide for your loved one, often at very low or even no cost. Never assume that your loved one does not qualify for these programs due to income or assets. The income and asset limit for many of these services is usually higher than it is for other publicly-funded programs. Skilled professional care managers, assessors and nurses can perform an assessment to determine functional eligibility and assist with the financial applications.
