What is Long Term Living?

The old phrase "long term care" has been around for a long time. When it is used, most people think exclusively of nursing facilities.

Today, a new phrase "long term living" is being used that represents a much wider range of services. It includes a variety of services and supports over an extended period of time that can be provided in many settings, including:

• at sites in the community where you live;
• in your home;
• in a residential setting;
• in a nursing facility

In fact, receiving the services and supports in your home or community can make it possible for you to continue to live at home rather than moving to a nursing facility or other type of residence. Sometimes, residential options are appropriate. It really depends on your preference and your needs.
